History of Affinity Medical Center

|
December 1904 John and Amelia Pocock donate land to establish Massillon Community Hospital.
1963 Five physicians and a philanthropic businessman establish Doctors Hospital of Stark County
1999 Akron General Health System purchases Massillon Community Hospital
April 2001 Triad Hospitals, Inc. purchases Doctors Hospital
December 2003 Massillon Community Hospital and Doctors Hospital of Stark County announce plans for a venture
November 2004 Stark County Common Pleas Court rules in favor of the hospitals (needed because of a restriction in the original deed)
March 2005 Venture approved by each facility’s Board of Trustees/ Directors
November 2005 Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro approves the venture
February 2006 Venture is finalized and leadership named
June 2006 New name is announced: Affinity Medical Center
January 2007 New short-term service model is announced
January 2008 Announcement is made that all services will be consolidated to Massillon Campus
September 2008 All Affinity Medical Center services are relocated to the Massillon facility | |
