Brief Introduction of the Program

Affinity Medical Center is a small program that can provide a more close-knit and collegial atmosphere. The focus is all about collaboration and hands-on learning. As a resident, you work closely with highly skilled orthopaedic surgeons.

C. Provide the resident with the necessary education and information to successfully complete the AOA certification examination in orthopedic surgery.

General Program Information

We are affiliated with OU-COM and a member of the "CORE." Orthopedic Surgery residents will scrub in on all cases with your attending, as the first assist in the time you are on service. Case level of participation is generally based on competency, year in training and trust level between the attending and resident. This will range anywhere from observation to skin-to-skin performance of the procedure in its entirety.

Didactic Schedule (subject to change)

Didactics can range from attending lectures, to resident lectures, to equipment representative lectures/workshops, to OITE review questions and include topics ranging everywhere from basic sciences to surgical approaches and patient management. All residents meet and start their days with didactics. Following didactics the residents will split up depending on the attending service (i.e. those operating will leave for the OR and those not operating will round on the inpatient census). Occasionally, additional didactics will occur in the evenings depending on attending or equipment representative schedule. Those not operating are expected to attend these evening sessions. Didactic lectures occur Monday and Tuesday at 7am and then we have a block session on Wednesdays from 12pm-4pm. All orthopedic residents are required to attend osteopathic principles and practice lectures with the core students and other residents at Affinity. You are excused from your orthopedic duties during these lectures.
